Objective

On completion of the course the student will be able to recognize wood, brick and concrete building systems and to describe the characteristics and use of building materials.

Content

The most common Finnish wood structure buildings and concrete element buildings and their structures. The characteristics, production methods, uses and repair methods of the most common building materials, such as wood, natural stone, brick , lime sandstone, breeze blocks, concrete, mortar, steel, aluminum, copper, brass, insulation such as gutter, mineral wool, plastic insulation, water insulation, glass and surface structures such as paint and wallpaper.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student recognizes the parts of wood and concrete structure buildings and is able to find out the characteristics of different building materials.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is familiar with the parts of wood and concrete structure buildings, as well as the characteristics, uses and repair methods of building materials.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to describe the parts of wood and concrete structure buildings and their function. He or she is able to use building materials correctly, repair them correctly and select an appropriate material, suitable installation and maintenance instructions for different situations and purposes.
