Objective

After completing this course the student understands the operating principles of various electronic components and their intended use. The student can build a small electronic device from basic components and understands its operating principle. He or she understands the behaviour of the components in a direct and alternating current circuits and can read circuit diagrams.

Content

1. Resitors and their behaviour in electronic circuits
- Ohm's law
- serial- and parallel connections, voltage and current distribution
- power loss in a resistor
- basic resistors: carbon-, metallic-, etc., and the color coding scheme and tolerances
- potentiometer
- NTC-, PTC-, LDR-, and VDR- components

2. Coils and condensators:
- principles of alternating current
- reactance of a coil and condensator
- condensators in practice
- coil-condensator applications

3. Semiconductors
- diode and its function
- Zener-diode, LED
- examples of diode applications
- transistors and their function
- examples of transistor applications

4. Integrated circuits
- operational amplifiers
- microcontrollers

The student builds an electronic device and studies its components.

The student understands the purpose of using various electronics components, and can analyze their behaviour in a simple electronic circuit.

The student understands the purpose of using various electronics components, and can analyze their behaviour in a simple electronic circuit, and can plan simple circuit designs.
