Objective

On completion of the course the student will have acquired an overall understanding of the basics of sustainable development and environmental protection in building. He or she will be familiar with the principles of life span economy in building and is able to do life cycle assessments (LCA) and calculate life cycle costs (LCC) for systems and equipment used in building technology. The student understands the principles of building technology systems and how the life cycle costs of equipment are formed. He or she is able to calculate life cycle costs both manually and using computer software. The student is familiar with the phases of life cycle assessment (goal setting, inventory analysis, impact assessment and interpretation of results) and is able to do the necessary calculations both manually and using computer software.

Content

The objectives of life cycle cost calculations and life cycle assessments. Factors in life cycle costs and their evaluation. Phases in life cycle assessment: goal setting, inventory analysis, impact assessment and interpretation of results. Environmental statements. Calculation tools for LCC and LCA. The basics of investment calculations. Sensitivity analysis of investment calculations.
