Chemistry of PrintingLaajuus (3 ECTS)
Course unit code: TV00AA13
General information
- Credits
- 3 ECTS
Objective
After completing the course, the student understands the role of chemical phenomena and processes in printing technology. S/he knows the chemical reactions taking place in the production processes, and their control mechanisms, and can analyse the reasons behind production problems. The student also understands how the emissions from the printing processes affect the environment.
-----
After completing the course, the student is able to choose the most suitable materials and control the production processes. S/he is also able to choose the correct handling processes to different waste fractions.
Content
Chemical phenomena and processes in the printing technology
- photochemical processes in imaging and platemaking
- surface chemistry in the printing process
- applications of polymer chemistry in printing inks, varnishes, adhesives and printing plates
- environmental impacts of the printing processes
-----
- properties, manufacturing and the control of properties of printing inks
- recycling of printed products and its problems
- handling of different waste fractions from the production processes
