Emission- and Environmental monitoringLaajuus (3 ECTS)
Course unit code: TO00AA38
General information
- Credits
- 3 ECTS
Objective
Students understand the special chemical and physical characters of pure water, natural water and waste water. In addition students know the basic analytical methods of different types of water samples. Further students are able to apply the analysis methods in practice.
Students can calculate theoretically the flue gas content and they understand the formation mechanisms of main air pollutants. Students know the principles of isokinetic sampling and sampling methods based on adsorption and absorption.
-----
After the course students can perform the basic analysis of different types of water samples. Students are also able to evaluate the water quality and usability according to health and hygiene legislation as well as other different recommendations of authorities. Further students can plan and perform air sampling independently. Students know the practical sampling principles of isokinetic sampling and sampling methods based on adsorption and absorption. In addition students can recognize the most relevant source of errors when sampling.
Content
Special character of pure, natural and waste water. Legislation and guides of water pollution, water sampling, sample preparation and analysis, formation of air emissions, emission formation calculations, monitoring and sampling of particle and gaseous compound emissions.
-----
Quality assurance, good laboratory practice and the relevant source of errors in air sampling. Monitoring of process-, ambient air- and occupational emissions.
