Objective

A student is able to do simple physical measurements, use modern measuring devices, analyze the results and write good technical reports.A student is able to work effectively in small group.

Content

Principles of experimental work and measurements. Analyzing methods of the results. Estimation of accuracy and reliability of the measurements. Reporting the work. Laboratory excercises in mechanics and thermal physics in small groups.

Designing of measurements, mathematical estimation of the accuracy of the measurements and their results.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. A student knows the principles of working safely and can perform simple measurements according to instructions.
2. A student can make simple graphical presentations and determine the slope of the linear regression curve with EXCEL.
3. A student knows the essential methods for estimating the accuracy of the results is able to use them to evaluate the quality of the results according instructions.
4. A student can write short technical reports.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. A student can choose proper measuring devices and is able to work as part of the group.
2. A student is able to process data by both graphical and calculating methods applying EXCEL.
3. A student can use different methods for estimating the accuracy of the results.
4. A student can write logical reports of good quality.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. A student works independently and is able to apply and develop the measuring methods used.
2. A student can use a wide range of methods of EXCEL in data processing. She or he can draw independent and critical conclusions of results and methods used.
3. A student can independently apply different estimation methods for the accuracy of the results.
4. A student can write reports where both content and appearance are consistent and logical.
