Product DevelopmentLaajuus (3 ECTS)
Course unit code: TM00AD50
General information
- Credits
- 3 ECTS
Objective
The aim of the course is to let the student get accustomed to the product life-cycle starting from product ideas reaching up to the product’s recycling.
Essential in the course is the introduction to R&D methodologies including the ‘tools’ used in different stages of the R&D process.
The basics of DFA (Design for Asssembly) are also taught.
Content
The class includes:
- R&D methodologies
- Idea creation methods
- Analyses of the product variants
- Modularity and Product Series
- Product Data mgmt PDM/PLM
- TQM (Total Quality Mgmt)
- Project mgmt and project implementation
- Project portfolio and connection to strategy of the company
- DFA = Design for Assembly
- Automatisation of the Assembly
The students do exercises in each theme and perform an assembly analysis of the chosen design by using Avix-software.
Qualifications
Technical Drawing
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student can recognize different R&D projects and is able to utilize adequate R&D Tools in each phase of the R&D process.
The student can use 2-3 different idea creation methods. In addition he/she can ‘rank’ the product variants by using at least one ranking method.
The student can create an assembly with CATIA’s Assembly Design module and is able to utilize the 3D-model in Avix (DFA analysis software).
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student can act in different R&D projects by utilizing adequate R&D Tools in each phase of the R&D process. He/she understands the link between the R&D project and the company strategy.
The student can use 3-4 different idea creation methods. In addition he/she can ‘rank’ the product variants by using several ranking methods. He/she can calculate the economical key figures in each project.
The student can create an assembly with CATIA’s Assembly Design module and is able to utilize the 3D-model in Avix (DFA analysis software) in order to analyze the DFA and make improvement suggestions for the design.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
