General information

Credits
3 ECTS

Objective

Students will get familiar with the concepts of internal combustion engines, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer through laboratory works. They will also get to know different kind of transducers and sensors and measuring technology.

Content

1. Laboratory works of internal combustion engines (for example spark-ignition engine and compression-ignition engine)
2. Laboratory works of fluid mechanics (for example wind tunnel measurements, drag coefficient, Strouhal number, centrifugal pump and centrifugal blower)
3. Laboratory works of thermodynamics (for example definition of real gas, Joule-Thomson coefficient)
4. Laboratory works of heat transfer (boiler and heat exchangers)

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student masters the equations used in the laboratory works
2. The student understands the principles of machines and equipment used in the laboratory works

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student knows how to adapt the equations and how they are formed
2. The student understands how the equations can be used to change the process or function of the machines in the laboratory works

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student masters the concepts related to the equations (for example Nusselt number, Grashof number, Reynold number, and so on)
