Objective

How do engineering materials deform when bearing different mechanical loads? The different kinds of material deformation (elasticity, plasticity, fracture, creep, fatigue) are explained. Different classes of engineering materials (metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites) and how these materials can be strengthened to meet the design requirements.
After the course the student:
1. Knows the commonly used steel and steel standards.
2. Is familiar with cast irons and light metals.
3. Knows the most used NDT methods and failure mechanisms.
