Objective

The student knows the most common application areas of plc systems, recognizes the different plc systems and knows their working principle. He/she is able to design simple systems based on plc, choose the necessary components and make the application software

1. IEC 61131-3 standard
2. Soft plc
3. Programming languages
4. Control of binary signals
5. Analog signals
6. Wiring sensors and actuators
7. Documentation of plc systems

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student knows the application possibilities of plc systems
2. The student knows the working principle of plc systems
3. The student knows the principles of plc programming
4. The student can program a simple plc application using one of the five programming languages available
5. The student knows the basic requirements of documentation

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student is able to evaluate the suitability of different plc systems in a certain application
2. The student is able to select components for a plc application
3. The student can make an application software for a plc system and commission a simple system
4. The student can make the documentation of the system and make the necessary drawings

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student is able to evaluate different plc systems
2. The student can make a definition for a plc application
3. The student can select proper components for a plc application
4. The student can install a plc system, make the application software and commission the system
5. The student can combine different programming languages in the same application
6. The student can make the documentation of all components, connections and application software
