Objective
After completing this course the student will be able to
- choose and dimension appropriate roller bearings and slide bearings
- define efficiencies of power trains and choose appropriate electric motors for the gears
- calculate mesh load and power transfer ability of gear assemblies
- choose and dimension chain gears, V-belt gears and epicyclic gears

The student solves basic cases correctly. Can choose appropriate gear and electric motor when rotation speed and moment of load are known. Considers efficiency of transmission.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to apply knowledge broadly and calculate examples with rapid load variation.
e. g. Load calculations during startup of an electric motor and define startup times in relation to the load
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student is able to apply knowledge from other fields and uses own judgement when assessing examples which cannot be calculated exactly
