Objective

The student is aware of the application area of pneumatics. He/she recognizes the usual pneumatic components in a pneumatic circuit drawing and knows their working principle. He/she is able to design basic pneumatic systems and choose the necessary components. He/she knows the basics of compressed air production.

1. Pneumatic components and their working principle
2. Graphical symbols of components
3. Application areas of pneumatics
4. Designing pneumatic systems
5. Basic dimensioning of the components
6. Production of compressed air

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student is aware of the advantages and disadvantages of pneumatic systems
2. The student knows the common quantities used in pneumatics and their units in the SI system
3. The student recognizes the common pneumatic components in a pneumatic circuit diagram
4. The student can design the pneumatic control of a simple system according to specification
5. The student knows the basic requirements of documentation

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student is able to evaluate the suitability of pneumatic system in a certain application
2. The student is able to solve a simple sequential pneumatic system
3. The student can recognize the usual pneumatic components used in the pneumatic circuit diagram and knows their working principle
4. The student is able to dimension the actuators according to the given requirements
5. The student knows the basic documentation requirements of the system

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student is able to evaluate different control methods in a pneumatic system
2. The student can solve sequential pneumatic systems and apply the solution also to electrical control of pneumatic systems
3. The student is able to understand the function of pneumatic system and components based on the pneumatic circuit diagram
4. The student can dimension the actuators and draw the pneumatic circuit diagram
5. The student can make a simple plc control program of a pneumatic sequential system
