Objective

The student is able to design and commission usual hydraulic and pneumatic systems. He/she is also able to apply proportional and servo hydraulics in cases where those systems are needed. The student is able to commission proportional and servo hydraulic systems and knows the principles of dynamic systems. The student knows the basic safety requirements of machine directives

Content

1. Design and commissioning of usual hydraulic systems
2. Proportional hydraulic systems and their commissioning
3. Servo hydraulic systems and dimensioning of dynamic systems
4. Designing pneumatically actuated devices and dimensioning the components
5. Selection of the control system and designing the control software
6. Documentation of pneumatically actuated systems

Qualifications

Hydraulics or Hydraulics and Pneumatics

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student is able to dimension the actuators and components of usual hydraulic systems
2. The student knows the components of proportional hydraulics
3. The student knows the components of servo hydraulic systems
4. The student is able to select the actuators and components of customary pneumatic system
5. The student knows the basic documentation requirements of pneumatic systems
6. The student knows the basic safety requirements of automatic machines specified in the machine directive

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student knows the meaning of efficiency and is able to take it into account in system design
2. The student is able to apply proportional hydraulics in appropriate cases
3. The student is aware of difference between steering and regulation and is able to apply servo hydraulics in appropriate cases
4. The student is able to dimension a simple pneumatic system using design and dimensioning software
5. The student pays attention to the safety requirements when selecting and dimensioning the components
6. The student is able to draw the pneumatic circuit drawings using schematics software

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student can choose the components according to the system needs
2. The student is able to commission the proportional hydraulic systems
3. The student is able to dimension the dynamic systems and can choose the required components
4. The student can make a functional description and definition of a pneumatically actuated system
5. The student can select and dimension the components and is able to document the whole design phase
6. The student is able to make a preliminary risk analysis of the system
