Objective

On completion of the course the student will be able to communicate orally and in writing in projects and other group communication situations as an expert of his or her field, to apply the principles and textual conventions of Finnish academic communication to his or her final year project and thesis and to field-specific tasks and to use essential sources of information in his or her field.

Content

Conventions of academic communication for the final year project and thesis and for development tasks in the field. Communication and interaction in a project: oral project communication and the documents related to a project, for example project plan, reports and bulletins. Consultations, meetings and negotiations and the related documents. Professional information literacy.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Communication in projects and groups
- The student is able to act as a member of a project group as instructed and participate in different interactive situations.

Reporting and other written communication
- The student is able to compose understandable documents according to the given models and instructions.

Professional information literacy
- The student is able to locate information in his or her field for use in professional assignments.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Communication in projects and groups
- The student is able to act purposefully in different roles in group communication situations and promote the activity of the group.

Reporting and other written communication
- The student is able to compose documents with appropriate content and language.

Professional information literacy
- The student is able to locate information critically and from various professional sources and use it appropriately in his or her own texts.

- The student acts actively and purposefully for the benefit of the project and the group.

- The student is able to compose professional and revised documents.

- The student is able to locate and apply information independently and with proficiency to provide new professional viewpoints.
