Course unit code: TM00AC90
General information
- Credits
- 3 ECTS
Objective
The student knows the basic laws describing the behavior of light and understands the function of the important optical components and instruments. The student also knows different frequency regions of electromagnetic spectrum.
The student can perform physical measurements, use modern measuring devices, analyze the results and write reports from her or his own measurements.
Content
1. Electromagnetic spectrum. Basic phenomena related to the behavior of light: reflection, refraction, polarization, interference and diffraction and their applications.
2. Geometrical optics: mirrors and lenses.
3. Laboratory exercises related to electromagnetism, optics and radiation physics.
Qualifications
Physics, laboratories 1
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. The student recognizes different frequency ranges of electromagnetic radiation. She or he can use reflection and refraction laws in simple applications.
2. The student can use mirror and thin lens equations for one component system.
3. The student can perform physical measurements according to instructions and write short reports of the measurements.
