Communication Skills in ICTLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The goal is to help students to become active communicators in English in their work community as ICT or software specialists or in middle management positions in companies. Special emphasis is placed on being able to communicate with clients, partners and units abroad. Documentation and understanding of specialist material, including reporting are important competencies.

Content

Skills for the multicultural and international corporate environment: concepts of culture, otherness and sameness; the multicultural Finland. How to become aware of cultural backgrounds and apply wise strategies for communicating in mixed cultural groups. International study and work environment: stereotypical apprehensions, ethnocentrism and cultural relativism; cultural similarities and differencies; intercultural communication; adatation to new environments; student exchanges.
