Quantization of light and wave-nature of matter. Bohr model of atom, quantum-mechanical atom. Lattice structure. Energy bands and thermal excitation. Microscopic theory of electrical conductivity. Intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors. Physics and applications of pn junction. Diode and transistor.
