Objective

The student knows the basic concepts of lossless and lossy transmission lines, such as wave equation, characteristic impedance, propagation coefficient, attenuation and dispersion. After the course, the student will be able to analyze and design TEM mode transmission line circuits using Smith chart, scattering parameters and CAE design tools.

Content

Ideal lossless TEM-transmission lines, Helmholtz wave equation, pulse transmission, time-domain reflectometry. Time-harmonic waves on transmission lines, standing wave ratio, reflection coefficient, Smith Chart and transmission line impedance matching. Lossy TEM-transmission lines, propagation constant and group delay distortion, crosstalk and ACR. Scattering parameters and circuit simulation softwares.
