Objective

After completing the course the student can install and manage services in a Linux-environment. Additionally the student has basic knowledge of Linux-system monitoring and security (firewall).

- DHCP service
- NFS / Samba file sharing services
- Sendmail
- WWW service (Apache)
- Name service (BIND)
- System monitoring
- Firewall configuration

Qualifications

Unix/Linux basics and Advanced Unix/Linux-course (or equilevant experience with Unix/Linux-systems)

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Installation, configuration and maintenance skills
- The student can manage services
- The student understands the different roles of services
- The student knows how to install different server software
- The student knows how to give basic configuration to different service software
- The student understands the basics of system monitoring
- The student knows what firewall is and understands its function in the system

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Installation, configuration and maintenance skills

- The student can manage services
- The student understands the different roles of services
- The student knows how to install different server software
- The student knows how to configure service software according to given specifications
- The student understands system monitoring
- The student masters basic firewall configuration and understands its function in the system

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

- The student knows how to install different server software
- The student knows how to configure service software according to given specifications
- The student understands system monitoring and knows how to configure monitoring
