Objective

After completing this course the student is able to perform basic lighting measurements in the laboratory and in the field. He/she is able to evaluate the results according to the standards and recommendations. The students is able to draw up a measurement plan for various lighting applications and to report the results and findings in a scientific way.

1. Measurements in an integrating sphere
2. Reflection and transmission measurements
3. Light distribution curve measurements
4. Measurement of colour properties
5. Measurement of electrical properties of lamps and luminaires
6. Measurements of illuminance and lighting quality in test installations and in a real environment
7. Reporting

Qualifications

Basics of Lighting Technology

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student is able to to measure the luminous flux of a light source.
2. The student is able to measure the reflection and transmittance of a material.
3. The student is able to measure the light colour coordinates and colour temperature.
4. The student is able to measure the electrical quantities of a light source lamp or luminaire.
5. The students is able to do the lighting quality and quantity measurements in an office room and to draw up a report of the findings.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student is able to to measure the luminous flux of a light source and the efficiency of a lighting fixture.
2. The student is able to measure the reflection and transmittance of a material.
3. The student is able to measure the light colour coordinates and colour temperature.
4. The student is able to measure the electrical quantities of a light source lamp or luminaire.
5. The students is able to do the lighting quality and quantity measurements in different spaces and to draw up a report of the findings.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student is able to to measure the luminous flux of a light source and the efficiency and a light distribution of a lighting fixture.
2. The student is able to measure the reflection and transmittance of a material.
3. The student is able to measure the light colour coordinates and colour temperature.
4. The student is able to measure the electrical quantities of a light source lamp or luminaire.
5. The students is able to do the lighting quality and quantity measurements in different spaces and to draw up a report of the findings.
6. The student is able to estimate the accuracy of the measurements.
7. The student is able to do measurement plans for lighting.
