The Basics of Energy Production and Energy EconomicsLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Course unit code: TE00AB75

General information

Credits
3 ECTS

Objective

The course provides an overview of the production and consumption of electricity, ways to optimize efficiency when designing and running plants, choosing electrical equipment for industrial and residential use, as well as means to decrease the use of energy.

After taking the course, one should be able to dimension and choose cost-effective equipment and machinery which are either using or producing electricity. Furthermore, the goal is to understand the cost difference of various energy using functions, e.g. in air conditioning the consumption of electricity related to circulating air as well as the heat loss resulting from channeling air outside – with or without heat conservation. One should also learn how to make financial calculations for savings investments.
