Objective

After completion of this course the student will know number systems of digital electronics. The student will be able to realize logical functions with basic gates circuits and understand what function the circuit realizes. The student will know the basics of digital electronics.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student will know binary and hexadecimal numbers and is able to do conversions between them and decimal numbers
2. The student will be able to create a truth table and produce a schematic diagram from it using intermediate steps
3. The student will be able to realize a circuit from a schematic diagram
4. The student will understand the basics of digital circuits

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student will know binary, 2’s complement and hexadecimal numbers and is able to do conversions between them and decimal numbers
2. The student will be able to create a truth table and produce an optimized schematic diagram from it using intermediate steps
3. The student will be able to realize a circuit from a schematic diagram
4. The student will understand the basics of digital circuits

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student will know binary, 2’s complement, BCD and hexadecimal numbers and is able to do conversions between them and decimal numbers
2. The student will be able to create a truth table and produce an optimized schematic diagram from it using intermediate steps
3. The student will be able to realize a circuit from a schematic diagram
4. The student will understand the basics of digital circuits, knows different codes, e. g. Gray-code and is able to explain the function of components
