Objective

On completion of the course the student will
- be able to explain how the industrial safety authority supervises a construction site
- be able to list the central regulations and instructions related to work safety
- be able to list the most common safety hazards at a building site
- know the safety plans and inspections conducted at a site
- know how site safety risks can be evaluated
- know the major safety risks of scaffolding
- be able to describe how falls are prevented at a site
- be able to list the personal safety equipment needed at an apartment building site
- be able to describe how the framework is carried out safely
- know the major safety risks of renovation
- be able to describe the safe usage of machinery at a site (cranes, hoisters etc.)
- be able to describe the principle of distributing responsibility of work safety between supervisors, workers and contractors
- be able to perform a TR measurement
- know what construction site accidents are like, what causes them and how much they cost
- know the juridical consequences of violating the law e.g. in the case of an accident on a construction site

On completion of the course the student will be able to
- perform a TR measurement
- draw up a storey level fall protection plan for the framework phase of an apartment building site
- draw up an area plan for an apartment building site and a prefabricated unit installation plan
- carry out the initial and maintenance inspection of the most common scaffolding and machinery

The student knows the basic safety issues in construction satisfactorily. He or she completes assignments on time.

The student knows and has understood the basic safety issues in construction well. He or she completes assignments well and according to instructions.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows and has understood the basic safety issues in construction very well, and has acquired an overall understanding of the subject area. He or she completes assignments excellently and at times even innovatively.
