Objective

After completing the course the student
- is able to list the parts of building envelope
- is able to list the common materials used in building facade
- is familiar with the properties of thermal insulation materials
- is familiar with the properties of water proofing materials
- is able to design, considering the requirements from environmental exposure, the structures of building envelope i.e. external walls, roof, bottom floor
- is able to design the fixings and joints in envelope structures

The student is able to
- define the u-value of an external wall
- list the requirements for sound proofing in ordinary buildings
- list the requirements for thermal insulation in ordinary buildings
- design the water proofing on ordinary roofs
- evaluate the ventilation of structures

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to
Additionally to the previous criteria:
- design external walls of a building
- design the roof of a building
- define the u-values of structures under ground

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to
Additionally to the previous criteria:
- prepare the energy calculations of a building with only common structures and technique
- design the building envelope of a freezing unit or other buildings with special requirements
- consider the effect of openings in sound proofing of walls
