Objective

The student will understand geotechnical terminology and tasks in the construction industry. The course teaches the student to understand the basics of the Finnish soils and bedrock, as well understand typical geologic problems.

Soil and rock conditions in Finland. Ground investigations. Frost. Ground water. Radon. Bearing capasity of foundations and stability of soil slopes. Settlements. Earth pressure. Basics of Environmental geotechnics.
