Objective
After completing the course the student
- recognizes the contents and the principles of eurocode design method
- is able to consider the requirements of Finnish National Annex as complementary information to EC
- is able to find supplementary information about eurocode related standards
- is familiar with the Finnish national building code
- is familiar with the execution standards at the extent required from a structural engineer
- is able to define actions on a non-ordinary building or structure
- is able to consider the affluence of partially rigid supports to the force distribution
- is able to work out the buckling length of a column including in a frame
- is able to determine the accidental load combinations for ULS design
- is able to explain the methods generally used to prevent the progressive collapse
- is able to explain the principles to consider the second order effects in determining the capacity of structures
- is able to make a distinction between reversible and irreversible serviceability limit states
- is familiar with the fire design principles
- is familiar with the noise control design principles
- is able to calculate the noise reduction of a building envelope
- is able to produce design drawings by some CAD program
- is able to estimate the influence of loading history in the behavior of a load bearing structure
- is familiar with the stability phenomena and their significance for structures
