Objective

The student will be able to
- define force and moment
- combine forces
- calculate moment of a force along a point
- define an equivalent force system
- show forces acting on a body and draw a free body diagram
- write equations of equilibrium for a body
- solve unknown forces using equations of equilibrium
- solve reactions of a structure
- identify statically determined structures

- Force systems

The student will be able to
- describe force systems
- identify an equivalent force system and wrench
- repeat equations of equilibrium of a rigid body
- present the principles of solving forces and moments

The student will be able to
- discuss force systems
- produce an equivalent force system and wrench
- prepare equations of equilibrium of a rigid body
- find and solve forces and moments

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student will be able to
- explain and use force systems
- determine an equivalent force system and wrench
- develop equations of equilibrium of a rigid body
- execute and implement solutions of forces and moments
