Basics of Concrete StructuresLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student will learn about the behaviour of concrete, reinforcing steel, the mechanics of cured concrete, the combined action of concrete and reinforcement steel in reinforced concrete structures. Basic types of reinforced concrete structures (beams and columns) will be treated, and the student will design some conventional reinforced concrete members. In addition, the overview on prestressed concrete structures and composite construction will be given.

The content of the course is behaviour and mechanics of cured concrete, characteristic of reinforcing steel, combined action of concrete and reinforcement steel in reinforced concrete structures, limit state design of rc-beams (singly reinforced rectangular sections, rectangular sections with compression reinforcement, T- and L-section), rectangular section subjected to bending and axial load, columns, solid rc-slabs spanning in one direction, basics in serviceability limite states design. design assignment of some reinforced concrete members
