Objective
The student is expected to know
- the factors affecting the state of the surface and the surface phenomena in different circumstances
- that it is utmost difficult to reach the fullu clean surface
- the role of surface energy and surfactants in the surface cleaning and coating
- the most common impurities on the surfaces of defferent bulk materials and also the meaning of these in respect to cleaning of surfaces
- know the possibilities of nanotechnology in the surface treatment to produce functional coating
- the requirements set on the surface research methods and equipments

The student is expected to be able to analyse the impurities and cleanness of the surfaces and the possibilities to manage the coating by different methods

Physical and chemical state of surface (with and without surface defects)
Surface phenomena (adsorption, desorption, physisorption, chemisorption, diffusion)
Surface stress and energy and its meaning in cleaning of surfaces and in coating
Oxidation of metal surface at low and high temperatures
Colloidal reactions
Wetting of solid surfaces
Rheology of paints
Surface reaction (corrosion, passivation, phosphating)
Introduction to nanotechnology
Clean and impure surfaces and the principles of cleaning
Research methods of surfaces
