Objective
After the course the student can describe how the essential material properties and microstructures can be detected. The student can select a proper method for various material test and research requirements. He or she can also carry out straightforward mechanical testing.

1. The student can name proper methods for testing mechanical properties.
2. The student can define the applications of non-destructive testing methods.
3. The student can present the essential differences between optical metallography and scanning electron microscopy and the applications of electron microscopes.

1. The student can describe how the materials mechanical testing is carried out.
2. The student can carry out tensile and simple non-destructive tests.
3. The student can describe the principle and applicability of a named materials characterization method.
4. The student can describe the principle and applicability of coating thickness test methods.

1. The student can select a proper ultra sound measuring method.
