Introductory ChemistryLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

After completion of the course the student has a sufficient understanding of the most important principles and calculation techniques in chemistry, so that he or she is able to successfully participate in and complete the other chemistry courses. The student can perform basic calculations in chemistry.

Content

Content 1
Basic principles of chemistry, structure of atom, periodic table, chemical bonding, the mole concept and Avogadro’s constant, chemical stoichiometry, gases, liquids and solids.

Content 2
Solutions and solution concentration, chemical reaction and reaction equations, introduction to thermochemistry.

Content 3
Acids and bases, introduction to electrochemistry, chemistry of the main group elements.
