Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences students may apply for identification and accreditation of prior learning as part of their compulsory or optional studies, provided they have prior learning corresponding to the curriculum before the course in question begins.

Profile of the programme

The aim of the programme is to develop a thorough understanding of the causes of pollution and the preventative actions available to minimise its impacts.

Key learning outcomes

The basic subjects of the Environmental Engineering programme mainly consist of natural sciences and introductory engineering. After the core requirement studies the student also understands the importance of international communication, business and cultural skills. Professional subjects focus on the prevention and control of environmental problems.
The main professional subjects are focused on the following areas:

- Environmental Technology
- Pollution Monitoring and Data Transferring
- Environmental Safety Management

Specialisation areas are:
- Renewable Energy Technology
- Water, waste and Environmental Engineering

A range of career paths are available for Environmental Engineers and work opportunities exist in various areas of the field, such as Design Engineering, Environmental Management, Quality Engineering, Process Engineering, and Environmental Consulting as well as providing environmental expertise in other areas.

Access to Master's studies according to the entrance qualifications of the university.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

Each course assessed using grading 0-5. Grade 0 = fail and grades 1-5 = pass. The assessment criteria are presented in each course description and the actual assessment methods depend on the teacher of the course.

Graduation requirements

240 ECTS credits to be completed according to the curriculum.
