Objective

The student has an understanding of the general importance of fermentation technology and biotechnical unit operations and their role in biotechnical processes.
The student knows how biomaterials affect the selection of unit operations, knows the principles of a fermenter and aseptic solutions and the effects of limiting factors in fermentation.
The student can compare different types of fermenters and fermentations and understands the importance of measurements and control.
The student learns the operating principles of most common biotechnical unit operations and the design of selected processes as well as mathematical skills needed in this work.
The student will become familiar with the English vocabulary of biotechnology.
The student can plan and implement, as group work, a biotechnical process in laboratory scale.
The student knows the key processes of environmental biotechnology and can follow the trends of the field.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student will demonstrate familiarity with the knowledge base and core content of the field and knows how to search for information in a diverse array of information sources.

The student is able to use the concepts and knowledge of the field coherently.
The student is able to search for information and to critically evaluate sources of information.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to expertly use the concepts and knowledge of the field, as well as to justify the use of information sources. The student is able to justify actions on the basis of research data or reports.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student will demonstrate familiarity with the knowledge base and core content of the field and knows how to search for information in a diverse array of information sources.
