Brake systems and traction controlLaajuus (3 ECTS)
Course unit code: TA00AD85
General information
- Credits
- 3 ECTS
Objective
The student will be familiar with the brake system and functioning as well as behaviour of a vehicle when braking. The student is aware of the factors influencing the braking process. The student is able to do a calculatory selection of brake components for a brake system which adheres to legislation
Content
1. Legislation
2. Braking
3. Brake force distribution, regulators, power transmission, brake mechanisms
4. Brake system calculation and dimensioning
5. Materials
6. ABS, ESC, BAS, ASR, ESP
7. Electrohydraulic brakes, brake-by-wire
8. Retarders
9. Pneumatic brakes
Qualifications
Driving dynamics of a car
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student knows the structure of brake systems and is able to asses the factors that affect their dimensioning and functioning of brakes
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student knows the structure of brake systems and how they function. The student is able to give reasons for the dimensioning of a particular brake system and what factors influenced it, based on material and component criteria.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student has a deep understanding of the structures of brake systems and materials as well as various factors affecting the way brake systems are dimensioned. The student applies the acquired knowledge when designing a brake system.
