Objective

On completion of the course the student will understand the basic properties of fuels and lubricants. The student knows the manufacturing processes of fuels and lubricants.

Content

1. Gasoline and diesel and their properties.
2. Alternative fuels.
3. Mineral oils and synthetic oils.
4. Power train oils.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student knows the basic properties of gasoline and diesel
2. The student is able to identify the most common alternative fuels
3. The student is able to identify mineral oils and synthetic oils, knows the differences and effects and characteristic properties.
4. The student knows the differences between power train oils and engine oils

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student knows the manufacturing processes of petrol and diesel
2. The student knows the manufacturing processes of alternative fuels
3. The student knows the effects of additives in oils
4. The student knows the differences between power train oils and engine oils.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student knows the effect of additives on engine function.
2. The student knows properties of alternative fuels and their effect on the engine.
3. The student knows the classification system for oils and their defining principles
4. The student knows the differences between power train oils and engine oils
