Objective
After passing the course the student knows different types of power transmission, manual and automatic gear boxes, final drives, universal joints and four wheel transmission systems.

1. Design principles of power transmission systems

3. Universal joints, final drives, differentials and four wheel drive.

1. Knows the principles of power transmission systems and can define the overall ratio of a transmission system
2. Can describe the power route in a manual gear box and knows the components of automatic gear boxes
3. Knows the types of universal joints, and can describe the working principle of differentials.

1. Can define the highest and lowest ratio of a power transmission system
2. Knows the principle of synchronization and can describe the power route in automatic gar boxes
3. Knows the locking systems of differentials and can describe the working principles of four wheel drive systems
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
1. Can define all the ratios of a power transmission system
2. Can define the synchronization time and can calculate ratios of automatic gear boxes
3. Can calculate the locking percentage and can calculate power splitting in four wheel drive systems
