Objective

After finishing the course the student is familiar with basic components and applications of power engineering and power electronics.

Content

1. Components in electrical engineering and power electronics.
2. Measuring voltage, current, power and energy in a power system.
3. Quality of electricity and measuring it.
4. Voltage drop.
5. Sizing of cables.
6. Electric machines and control systems.
7. Power supplies.

Qualifications

AC Circuit Analysis, Advanced Course on AC Circuits, Basic Electronics 1 and 2.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student is familiar with the power applications of electricity, basic measurements in power system and understands the meaning of voltage drop and can solve simple cable sizing problems.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1. The student understands the basic principles of electric machines and power supplies.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1. The student can design simple electric power systems.
