Objective

The student has knowledge about the routes and volumes of import to Finland and export from Finland. The student knows how ports and international transport systems function and he/she knows the parties involved.
The student has the capability to use road, rail, air and ocean freight, containers, trailers and other transport units in the transport chain worldwide.
The student is able to plan international trailer operations in import and export, do production cost calculations and calculate freight prices for the customer.

Content

1, Routes and volumes of import to Finland and export form Finland, the function of the ports and international transport systems and the parties involved. Transit transport.

2, The properties of road, rail, air and ocean freight. The use of containers, trailers and other transport units in global transport chains. The mass and dimension restrictions of trailers in international road freight, local restrictions and extra charges for transport on the roads. Intermodal transport.

3, Assessment of international trailer operations in import and export, production cost calculations and freight prices calculation for the customer.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1, The student has knowledge about the routes and volumes of import to Finland and export form Finland.

2, The student knows the properties of road, rail, air and ocean freight and is able to use containers, trailers and other transport units in the transport chain worldwide.

3, The student is able to do a route and schedule plan for international trailer operations in import and export and calculate production cost estimation.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

1, The student has knowledge how ports function and what are the duties of parties operating in ports and he/she knows how international transport functions.

2, The student is able to do loading plans, optimize net weight in containers, trailers or in other cargo units. The student knows the restrictions of mass and dimensions of road freight as well as other local restrictions e.g. driving ban

3, The student’s assessment of trailer operations includes the loading plans of trailers.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

1, The student knows the function of transit transport.

2, The student is familiar with the intermodal transport, e.g. combined road-rail transport in Central Europe

3, The student’s assessment of international trailer operations includes freight price calculations.
