Objective
The student is familiar with the fundamental laws of rotation and is able to apply them to central subjects in her/his profession.
The student knows the fundamental laws of fluid mechanics and is able to use the knowledge in fluid technology.
The student is able to carry out physical measurements with modern instruments, analyse the results obtained and prepare written reports on the measurements.
Content
1. Kinematics and dynamics of rotational motion.
2. Statics of fluids: pressure, hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy.
3. Fluid mechanics: fundamental concepts, Bernoulli’s law, frictional force in a medium.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1. The student can use the kinematic relations in simple applications of a rigid body.
2. The student can handle hydrostatic power transfer, recognizes buoyance forces, and is able to calculate flow velocity in simple applications.
3. The student knows the principles of working safely and can perform simple measurements according to instructions.
4. The student can make simple graphical presentations and evaluate the quality of the results according to the instructions.
5. The student can write short technical reports.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
1. The student can use the kinematic relations and the equation of motion in simple applications of a rigid body.
2. The student can handle hydrostatic power transfer and buoyance forces, and can describe different principles of pressure measurements.
3. The student understands the need of flow in different devices and pumps, and is able to calculate the flow velocity in simple applications.
4. The student can choose proper measuring devices for his/her laboratory experiment, and is able to work as part of the group.
5. The student is able to process data by EXCEL, and use different methods to estimate the accuracy of the results.
6. The student can write logical reports of good quality.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
1. The student can use the equations of motion and rotation in simple applications of a rigid body.
2. The student can handle hydrostatic power transfer and buoyance forces. He/she recognizes different principles of pressure measurements and surface tension.
3. The student understands the need of flow in different devices and pumps, can determine the nature of flow, and is able to calculate the flow velocity in simple applications.
4. The student works independently and is able to apply the measuring methods used.
5. The student can use a wide range of methods of EXCEL in data processing, can estimate the accuracy of the results, and can draw independent conclusions of results and methods used.
6. The student can write reports where both content and appearance are consistent and logical.
