Objective

The student will know the basics of matrix algebra, probability and statistical analysis and is able to apply them to different applications.

Content

Basics of matrix algebra with applications. Probability basics. Random variable, distribution, expected value and variance. Common probability distributions with applications. Reliability analysis. Basics of statistical analysis.

Equations, Trigonometry and vectors, Functions and differential calculus, Integral calculus and complex numbers

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows the basics of matrix algebra, understands the concept of probability, the classical and statistical approaches to probability and basic concepts relating to probability distributions. The student is able to use basic rules of probability, knows most common probability distributions and is able to use computer to calculate probabilities relating to them. The student knows the concepts of sample and population and basic ideas of statistical analysis.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to the requirements above, the student is able to solve simple problems relating to the most common probability distributions also without a computer. The student knows the basic concepts of reliability analysis and is able to solve simple practical problems relating to them.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the requirements above, the student has a deep understanding of the topics covered in the course and is able to apply them creatively and sensibly in different applications.
