Objective
Students comprehend the entire production process of a fiction film especially from the perspective of their own major subject. They understand the various technical, artistic, production-related and social factors that affect the process. Students are able to plan and produce a scene for a short film.
Fundamentals of directing and acting:
Students gain an understanding of the fundamentals of directing and acting in fiction film through personal experience. They are able to read a script from the perspectives of a director and actor and they understand that their working relationship is based on interpersonal interaction. In the role of the director, students are able to set objectives for the scene exercises.
Screenwriting:
Students are able to work as a member of the production crew in the position assigned for them. They understand the meaning of video and sound engineering and workflow in a film shoot. Students gain an insight into the Finnish television and film industry. They know how to write dialogue and action. They know the contents of a concept package of a screenplay and they know how to write the screenwriter’s statement.
Production Management: Students are able to plan and execute the pre-production and shooting of a scene. Students gain an insight into the Finnish television and film industry.
Cinematography:
Students are able to plan and execute the lighting and shooting of a scene. Students gain an insight into the Finnish television and film industry.
Editing:
Students know how to edit a scene and do basic image processing and graphics. Students understand the meaning of team work in the editing process.
Sound Production:
Students know the workflow of sound production in a fiction film. They are able to record the sound in a fiction film scene according to the conventions of the trade. Students are able to do the sound postproduction of a fiction film scene according to the conventions of the trade.

Cinematography and Editing
- Design and execution of lighting and shooting a film scene, various duties in the camera crew
- Content-based and technical editing of a scene
- Color grading
- Making of a compilation DVD
- Camera and actor
Screenwriting:
- Working in various roles in the production crew
- Practicing storytelling with dialogue and action (jointly and separately)
- Rewriting a short film script
- Screenwriter’s statement in the concept package of a short film
Sound Production:
- Design and recording of on-location sound in fiction film scene exercises
- Sound design for a fiction film scene and sound postproduction: dialogue, ambient sound, foley, music, mixing
- Sound in games and animated films
Qualifications
Cinematography and Editing: Lighting, Shooting and Editing a Scene (KM00BL23) or equivalent.
Sound Design and Production: Fiction Film - Fundamentals of Sound Design and Production 1 (KM00BL25)

Attendance in classes. Assignments completed. Some parts of the assignments need improvement.

Students will focus on the contents that are relevant for their own major subject. All students will complete the Fundamentals of Directing and Acting.
