Cultural History from History to Current TrendsLaajuus (4 ECTS)

Objective

After completing the course, the student will be familiar with the general features and main figures of cultural history. The student will perceive his/her own professional activity as part of the heritage and the overall field of culture. The student will be familiar with basic concepts of cultural philosophy and sociology and will be able to use them when discussing his/her own cultural thinking. The student will be able to search information on cultural phenomena.

Content

- Cultural-historical thinking and the concept of culture
- Background of popular culture, historical development and key influencing factors in cultural history (jos kyse vaikuttavista ihmisistä: key influential persons tai key opinion leaders)
- Concept of popular culture and its dimensions
- Cultural sociology as the structural basis for the work of a cultural manager

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student can place oneself as part of the heritage and the overall field of culture and can search information on cultural phenomena. In addition, the student is able to discuss his/her own cultural thinking.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student can observe the cultural heritage from different approaches. The student will be familiar with basic concepts of culture and will be able to use them when discussing his/her own cultural thinking.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can analyse well and from several perspectives himself/herself as part of the heritage and the future of the field of culture. The student is capable of complex dialogue using literature, observations on current trends and own thinking.
