Objective
The students will further develop their skills in information and communication techniques and will acquire the skills needed for the polytechnic studies. The students will develop both oral and written communication skills both in studies and professional contacts. They will actively and critically
follow the media, learn how to acquire information, process and share it. The students will also gain communicative expertise required in research and other developmental tasks required in their profession.
Content
The students will be introduced to the equipment, local area network, e-mail, data security and data privacy. The students will also gain technical skills for appropriate use of both the Internet and e- learning. Technical skills will be gained in word processing, creating documents, spreadsheet and presenting assignments.
Presentation skills: speech as a tool of persuasion; discussion and interaction in a group;
oral skills and voice control;
planning and illustration in oral interaction;
taking the floor; introductions; teaching demonstration; seminar participation; peer assessment.
Creating a document, editing text and documents e.g. employment documents. Written tasks related to studies: reports, summaries and electronic communication.
Using, tagging, and evaluating sources:
professional reading, writing and editing;
acquiring information;
data management process (Kulthau).
Basics of analyzing and writing Web texts.
