Music Writing 2Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student is able to write stylistically consistent unities of melody and harmony and gains facilities for writing two-voice polyphony. The student has a command of various technical issues required when writing music for a big band or other larger ensemble.

- Tonal harmonization and reharmonization
- Tonal and modal hybrid chords
- Four and five-part sectional writing
- Five and six-part sectional cluster voicings
- Large chordal voicings
- Writing two-part jazz counterpoint
- Combining thematic and background elements
- Melody harmonization and reharmonization.

Qualifications: Students be familiar with essential techniques for big band, or other large enemble writing.
