Arranging 2Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student gains facilities for writing for larger ensembles (such as big bands) and is able to compose and/or arrange small-scale works for instrumental and vocal ensembles of different sizes.

- Definition of atmosphere and style
- Treatment of rhythm, melody and harmony
- Orchestration
- Elements of form (introductions, interludes, modulations, tutti choruses, shout choruses, codas)
- Thematic sections and background elements
- Planning and sketching an arrangement
- Score writing

Further information

Qualificatons: The student is able to write an elementary arrangement for modern big band and produce a written score of the arrangement plus parts for the individual instruments.
