Objective

The student shows a command of basic tonality and diatonic functions in common major and minor key signatures through singing and writing.

Content

- Intervals 1-13
- Modes of the melodic minor scale and V mode of harmonic minor scale
- Melodies in major, minor and blues keys
- Chromatic notes caused by harmonic progressions
- Bass functions and obbligato lines
- Modulation to relative major or minor keys as well as other related keys
- Two-voice melodic dictation (melody and obbligato line)
- Chord voicings for triads, four-note chords, and dominant ninth chords
- Diatonic chord progressions with triads, four-note chords, and dominant ninth chords, also using substitute and deceptive cadences
-Harmony, melody and improvisition exercises over "music minus one" recordings

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in lessons as agreed
• has carried out the agreed tasks
• is able to work independently
• can write major, minor and blues melodies, as well as obligato lines with simple harmony based on chromatic variations
• can write tonal chord progressions, including chord substitution, relative cadences, three and four part chords, and five part dominant chords
• has completed the oral and written exam satisfactorily

• is able to work independently
• can adeptly write major, minor and blues melodies, as well as obligato lines with simple harmony based on chromatic variations
