Dance Music TranscriptionLaajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Students deepen their knowledge of Finnish and/or foreign dance music by making and analyzing transcriptions. Students focus on the observation and adoption of the most typical elements of the genre, on common issues of notation technique, on examining the historical development of the genre and on expanding the repertoire.

Content

- Transcription of typical structural forms, harmony, rhythm, and melodic treatment, as well as analysis by ear
- Identification of instruments and timbres
- 10 pieces with essential musical elements or of essential importance and with varying ensembles
