Objective

The student masters the general terminology of pop and jazz music. He/ she is able to work out the melody, harmony and form of tonal pieces. The student masters the basic tonal harmony and is familiar with the specific features of individual pieces. The student will be prepared for Melody and Harmony 2 course.

- Analysis of melody, harmony and the form of the pop/jazz song

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student:
• is involved in class as agreed
• has completed the agreed tasks
• is able to work independently
• can recognize and form tonal triads and seventh chords
• is able to identify and analyze the notation of tonal pop and jazz music, and the most common melodic and harmonic phenomena
• is able to harmonize simple melodies with chords derived from the major scale
• is able to write simple tonal triads
• is able to write simple major tonal melodies
