Secondary Instrument, Course 2/3Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student familiarizes him/herself with the basics of playing the instrument, including both technical and accompaniment tasks. The student becomes familiar with more advanced accompaniments and becomes qualified for 3/3-level studies.

Content

- Coordination
- Different styles of accompaniment
- Accompaniment rhythms, basic technique, music reading and interpreting song structure.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

To get an approved performance a student
• has participated in teaching
• has accomplished agreed assignments
• is able to independent working
• is practicing repertoire
• is practicing typical interpretation of his/hers instrument
• is able to understand basic accompaniment rhythms aurally, visually and kinesthetically with his/her instrument
• is able to use characteristic means of expression and accompaniment rhythms of his/her instrument

Assessment criteria, good (3)

To get a good grade a student in addition to previous:
• is able to use characteristic means of expression and accompaniment rhythms of his/her instrument fluently
• understands his /her role in the ensemble
• masters basic rhythms well

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

To get an exellent grade a student in addition to previous:
• know how to use charasteric ways to express the chosen repertoire creatively and high standard
• know how to vary accompaniment rhythms by style
• owns high standard timbre, dynamics and rhythm conception
