Objective

The student familiarizes him/herself with the basics of playing the instrument, including both technical and accompaniment tasks. The student becomes qualified for 2/3-level studies.

Content

- Rudimentary accompaniment in different styles
- Accompaniment rhythms, basic technique, music reading and interpreting song structure.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in teaching
• has accomplished agreed assignments
• is able to work independently
• has practiced the agreed repertoire
• has practicing interpretation typical of their instrument
• is able to understand basic accompaniment rhythms aurally, visually and kinesthetically with their instrument
• is able to use means of expression and accompaniment rhythms characteristic of their instrument
• has publicly performed stylistically versatile accompaniments with their instrument
• has performed publicly stylistically versatile accompaniments with his/hers instrument

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition, the student:
• is able to use means of expression and accompaniment rhythms characteristic of their instrument fluently
• understands their role in an ensemble
• masters basic rhythms well

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

To get an exellent grade a student in addition to previous:

• knows how to express a selected repertoire creatively and to a high standard
• knows how to vary accompaniment rhythms depending on a given style
• performs with a high standard of timbre, dynamics and rhythm

The student:
• has participated in teaching

• has practiced the agreed repertoire
